New York was fabulous, despite the torrential rain for the first two days we were there. It was so wet that I was soaked by the time we got to the subway, despite the waterproof jacket and umbrella. We spent those days in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (including Cloisters), and didn't see half of it. The Met totally rocks.

This left only Saturday, which was spent frantically rushing around to see as many sights as possible. I have seen the Chrysler building from several angles, and the Brooklyn Bridge, and seen the sights from the Staten Island ferry. I have been peeled off the window at Saks Fifth Avenue (it's probably a Good Thing that it was shut at the time).

So, not what I'd planned to do thanks to the weather, but a wonderful three days nonetheless. Next time, and there will be a next time, we can accomplish more. Thanks again to Missjanette and Bob for putting us up. We loved Astoria - it reminded me of Toronto. With elevated rail.

The budget survived because we mostly ate in Astoria. New Yorkers were not revolted when we admitted that everything Jason knows about NY he learned from Law & Order. Consensus was that if you're going to learn about NY from TV, that's a good place.

I survived two entire days in museums in a row without total collapse, which is more exciting than it sounds. Usually I can't even make it through one.

Law & Order (original) can also teach you everything you need to know about the US legal system, too.

I find myself yelling at the screen "Don't do it, Lennie, there's no probable cause, it's an illegal search, there'll be a motion to suppress!". Yes OK so I'm a sad git...

At the end of day two, Lisa's comment was along the lines of "no more art! my brain is full!"
