I left the house socially last night - yes folks, that's twice in one week!

We went to the Fleece to see James Ray. Far better review than I could do here.

Except that I have never seen the appeal of James Ray, and I still don't. The wall of sound is impressive and neat and all, but I came out of the venue with a nasty case of tinnitus and still can't hear a damn thing.

Should have spent the extra money and gone to see Julian Cope the other week instead. If I'd known about that before it happened, that is.

However, I did enjoy both the incredibly generic support band and the ethereal-ish second band. And just being somewhere that was neither my office nor my house, wearing something that was neither a suit nor my pymanas, and having actual interaction with real live people cheered me up no end.

Auditory issues aside, I feel better today than I have any right to. Didn't start to suffer at work until 15 minutes before I could leave. Encouraging, but after effects of too much activity can wait up to 72 hours to hit me. I think I need a quiet weekend in just in case.

I kinda like James Ray, but only because he's a highly credible Eldritch clone sans the attitude.

I had no idea James Ray was still alive/playing.

You were one of the people I was thinking of when watching the show.

(BTW...Jodi and I thought the May 4th Lene Lovich show would be more ideal.)

There was nothing about him to make me even begin to think Eldritch clone (looks or sound-wise)!

Good to see you. Didn't you bring earplugs?

I've never actually seen a picture of him, to tell you the truth, much less a video.

I have a couple of old recordings that sound almost exactly like early Sisters stuff.

I take it he's evolved since then? I kinda hope he had, cause he's got a stunning voice and I'd like to hear something more original and unique from him.

If you look on the review Jodi links to (my husband's), he has links to places online to download mp3's.

I certainly don't think the majority of his stuff is anything like SoM, especially not live.

Cool! I'll check those out when I get home.

Maybe the majority of his stuff is non Sisters-ish, but what little I heard (esp "Texas") sounded almost identical to Uncle Andy's early warblings. Sadly, I've never seen him live, so I'll take your word for it.

For certain values of "alive" and "playing" that may or may not include how one usually defines them.

I should probably start. My hearing is so shot anyway, and since I stopped needing to be able to tune a guitar & other technical musical shit, I can't be bothered. The only time I've had any untoward experiences with hearing after gigs involve (not surprisingly) Leechwoman. If I'd known about the quantity of feedback in advance I might have reconsidered.
