Jun. 15th, 2006 11:45 amHello all!
Got back from France late last night, and am considerably less in need of a holiday to recover from my holiday than usual. Probably a combination of it was only a week, and no boats or planes were involved. Have I mentioned recently that Eurostar + TGV are the best inventions ever? 7 hours from London to Avignon, including 45 minute stopover in Lille.
The weather was superb, though from the look of my garden it's been pretty fine here too.
Photos and proper write-up may or may not follow.
Haemorrhaged money from every orifice, because a) Provence is not cheap, and b) we had a lot of really fine lunches in prime tourist areas. Didn't buy any kitchen porn in Galleries Lafayette, or furniture & house porn from a shop that seems to be the French version of The Pier, and resolutely stayed out of Sephora. Then I had a makeup accident in Monoprix. It wasn't that Bourjois is significantly cheaper in France, but they had some colours which I'm sure they sell in the UK, but not in any of the Bristol outlets. Do not dare check bank balance just yet.
Despite the fact that the French take world cup just as seriously as everyone else, there's no tacky French flags hanging from every car and house. The only French flags we saw were attached to Hôtels de Ville.
As usual, Telewest felt the need to reser our box as soon as we left the house, so if anybody has the usual channel 5 stuff on tape from last week (House, Grey's Anatomy, CSI NY and CSI), we'd love to borrow it. I really don't understand - when we're not away, it seems like we get a Telewest update every six months, but every single time we go away we come back to 6 hours of "welcome to Telewest".

Date: 2006-06-15 01:54 pm (UTC)I suspect I'd see the same kind of kitchen porn if I hung about the higher-end British department stores, but I don't. And I wouldn't cook even if I owned it all, so I'll stick with spending all the money going on holiday.
