It must be a slow news day
Sep. 29th, 2006 10:53 amThe Guardian has yet another article on goth here.
Admittedly I haven't heard The Horrors, but the way Julianne Regan slags them off just makes her sound like a bitter old cow.
I was surprised that Severin had something nice to say about new goth at the end, because usually the Banshees can be relied on to be completely negative about just about everything.
It falls down on failing to do some basic fact checking in that eldritch so doesn't mean "wizard". But that would spoil their punch line, wouldn't it.

Date: 2006-09-29 10:16 am (UTC)It's not a bad article, though - the Daily Mail's one, which is everything you'd expect, is here:

Date: 2006-09-29 10:58 am (UTC)I agree with you about the Regan comments, although without hearing them and judging by their picture it's hard to categorically state that she's off the mark.
Yes, I thought Eldritch meant "wooden".

Date: 2006-09-29 11:12 am (UTC)Yeah, but for once I can get in there early, rather than get home from work 8 hours later and discover that every man and his dog has beat me to it.

Date: 2006-09-29 12:07 pm (UTC)Regan's slagging just makes me wanna check The Horrors out, frankly! :D Bloody hippie bint. ;)

Date: 2006-09-29 01:15 pm (UTC)Has anyone else _heard_ The Horrors? After all, there's no shortage of crap bands who _are_ just "NME Camden wankery" and a deserved slagging isn't out of place there.
What really amuses me is the Grauniad seeing someone who did "Queen Kerosene" as the authority on Goth 8-)

Date: 2006-09-29 11:21 pm (UTC)Why does the Daily Mail have to scaremonger parents about everything? And why the stupid picture of Rosie from Corrie? She gave up "goth" overnight and gained a whole new wardrobe within the space of an episode about six months ago! (not that I watch or anything...)
And while we're questioning things - what's wrong with purple lipstick and Whitby???

Date: 2006-10-02 08:15 pm (UTC)It is most unfortunate that quite a lot of the current bands do in fact suck, and the ones that don't do themselves no favours in ways great and small.
