[toronto fragments] The Ghost Mall
Dec. 4th, 2006 09:11 pmLast Monday, our last day in Toronto, I managed to catch a ride downtown with Marcus. He has his own parking space in an underground garage on Spadina, underneath the Ghost Mall.
The what? I hear you say.
You drive in, and it looks like any underground parking garage. Take the elevator up to the ground floor, which you would expect to be busy with offices or shops, particularly given what a prime piece of real estate it's sitting on, but there's - nothing. Just a bunch of defunct market-type stalls.
Marcus said it's creepy after dark. In my opinion, it was more than a little creepy in the day time.
Apparently the real estate developers have filled all the condos in the tower and the parking spots below, but never made a go of the ground floor, so it just sits there empty. Bizarre, and unexpected. Unfortunately we were in a hurry, so we didn't get any pictures.
