Happiness is...
Apr. 8th, 2003 10:07 amFinally having a copy of Diamond Dogs on CD.
Virgin had a sale. I got not only Diamond Dogs, but also The Man Who Sold the World and Space Oddity and REM's Monster for £6.99 each.
Space Oddity, title track aside, is hippy bollocks. Some of it is good hippy bollocks, but a classic Bowie album it's not. Man Who Sold the World may be one of the works Bowie himself is proudest of, but it's never done a lot for me (title track aside - see a theme with the early works?). (Still, sad Bowie fan and completist I had to pick them up as they were cheap). Have realized that I don't have Hunky Dory on CD yet, but I doubt the world needs me singing along loudly with Life On Mars anyway.
Diamond Dogs, OTOH, is sheer genius and I'm happy to have it on something other than scratchy old tape.
Monster doesn't suck either.

Date: 2003-04-08 02:48 am (UTC)I wonder if I can still remember Future Legend from Diamond Dogs in its entirety, as I've not listened to it for years. ...
And Life On Mars *has* to be sung along to - even I do that.
If you're interested I have a cheapie 'early works' album - I could see what state it's in an MP3 it. Off the top of my head it includes Please Mr Gravedigger, Maids Of Bond St, Little Boy Blue, Uncle Arthur, Rubber Band, Love You Til Tuesday, .... and there memory fails.

Date: 2003-04-08 03:32 am (UTC)I don't have Stage in any format, but I picked up both Scary Monsters and Low on CD for reasonable prices within the last year - I think I got Low cheap on ebay.
HMV sale
Date: 2003-04-08 03:35 am (UTC)I don't have a favourite Bowie album, and trying to choose one leaves me more confused than trying to choose a favourite Nick Cave song.
FWIW, Heathen has *really* grown on me.

Date: 2003-04-08 03:45 am (UTC)Stage is one of only three live albums [by anyone] that I like. The other two are by Siouxsie and, um, ~gets coat~ Dire Straights.
