Valentine's Day rant with a twist

As some of you may know, I work for the NHS. (Don't worry, this is only loosely related to the state of the NHS, which I won't rant about - anyone who has anything to do with the health service will have heard it all before).
Want to guess why we can't afford agency nurses this week? Because they charge weekend rates to supply nurses on Valentine's Day! On somebody's planet, working on Valentine's Day has become Unsociable Hours.
Unfuckingbelievable. It's not a statutory holiday. It's not even a real holiday, it's a bloody Hallmark holiday (insert standard Valentine's Day rant here).
Last time I checked, when you go into nursing, you know there's going to be shift work involved and you won't always be able to get the time off you would like. I'm not so much offended that people have tried to get paid the extra; it's more offensive that some idiot in management somewhere has allowed it. (That would be the same HR people who have said that we are no longer entitled to time off for doctors' appointments and it comes out of our flexi time.) I suppose next people are going to want time and a half to work on their birthdays; and some moron in management will allow it.
I used to think that I have an awful attitude to workking, but then I come across things like this and realize that I do indeed have a stellar work ethic.
