I'm sure parts of it are. Just nowhere I ever go.

What is it about the hot weather that makes every annoying smackhead in Bristol come out of the woodwork and reel around the city centre, attempting to extort money from all the pedestrians?

I catch the bus in front of House of Bleeding Fraser, not like it's at the skanky end of town. (Though speaking of the skanky end of town, yesterday the bus ride through Old Market was made somewhat more interesting by playing count the people passed out in the street. So I exaggerate. Mostly in doorways but one was definitely sprawled all the way across the pavement.)

Then there's Redfield, the closest place to us there's any shops or anything. If the weather's even remotely warm, it's full of drunk men with beer guts, no shirts and bad tattoos standing outside the pubs shouting abuse at people. The ones who ran out into traffic when I was picking up videos last week were particularly amusing. Unfortunately, the cars stopped.

I had a craving for nachos today. Got home to realize that not only is there nowhere to get nachos particularly close to us (just the two toxic Chinese places), as far as we know, no such thing exists in East Bristol.

Most of the time I don't mind living in a less than cosmopolitan area, because if we lived somewhere "nice" I wouldn't be afford to do or buy anything else and the neighbours would probably consider us the scumbags and try to get rid of us; it's just when I'd like to grab something quick to eat that isn't horrible chips or the worst approximation of Chinese food I've ever encountered, and realize that it's going to be a major expedition, that I wish I wasn't such a peasant.

In attempting to have a social life news, I'm going to attempt Entropy in Bath on Saturday night (the playlist from last months is here) and it looks like they played all my favourite indie stuff. However, I'm working all day Saturday so it might not be possible. But, it's summer so I'm feeling much less crap than usual, so we'll see.

And I'll be going to see Whale Rider at some point next week. Partly because Tim said I should, but also because it's playing at the Watershed and they serve nachos.
