I've finally got to admit I've wimped out and that it's too hot.

Thursday and Friday work was infernally hot. Fortunately management is turning a blind eye to things like shorts and very short skirts, and leaving early, and not even pretending to do any work (I avoided work for the better part of half an hour by shooting the shit with my manager, while wearing completely inappropriate clothing even by my standards).

Interestingly, I feel like a normal person being sloth-like because of the heat, rather than like my usual self. Still I'm pretty exhausted. I had my first night of *really* not sleeping last night.

Tim the Kiwi Doctor moved on to Oxford mid-week. He brought me a big bunch of flowers (er - they're yellow. I'm not much good at flowers) before he left. Unfortunately it was so hot that they were looking pretty droopy by the end of the first day.

On the plus side, it now looks like Jason and I will be going to Whitby in November for at least a couple of days (same basic idea as last time - hanging out in the day, sleeping when everyone else goes to the Spa.)

And I'm reading a really good book. It's called The Quincunx by Charles Palliser. The author teaches Victorian Lit at one of the Glasgow unis and it's basically a modern Wilkie Collins novel (I'm not big on the victorian novel but I love Wilkie Collins). It's one of those books that just makes you keep reading right from the very beginning.

I didn't have time to read it when I bought it so I lent it to a friend, who missed her stop on the tube because of it one day. I can certainly see why. It's absolutely huge, but I've read half of it this week. I may have stayed up too late on Thursday reading though. Interestingly, I bought it for 50p when the hospital library was having a cast-off sale and it looked interesting - I didn't hear of it through any of the usual chanels.

Went to the Cauda Pavonis album launch party last night and had a really good time. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sexbat for playing The Tenant, and reminding me how badly I need the Joey Ramone solo album.

Today I have done very little except clean out animals and read.
