The Good News

We picked up the new degus (Thelma and Louise), with spiffy new cage, on Saturday. They're unspeakably cute (yeah, I know, all degus look the same), and the new cage is even better than I expected. The old cage was a contraption we designed ourselves and was a better idea than it ever was in practice, and they only used part of it. The new cage is a huge chinchilla cage and they use the whole thing.

I'd forgotten how much fun having many degus is. It's a bit noisy though. As always, introducing new critters into the group was not a problem. There was brief unpleasantness when the new additions discovered Cara doesn't like to be disturbed when she's eating, and Sage is having to learn how to share the wheel again.

Even though I mainly let Jason get the new guys for the cage, I'm very pleased that we got them. I will attempt to get him to put pictures up.

And I borrowed the first two Harry Potter books yesterday. I got halfway through the first one today (and I've only been awake a couple of hours). It's amusing enough, but nowhere near as gripping as the Philip Pullman trilogy. Having seen the films may have spoiled it a bit.

The Bad News

I still feel like shit. I don't feel like I've had an extra day off, and aside from cleaning animal poo and moving animals to new cages (the gerbils are now installed in the tank portion of the old degu cage and now have the biggest gerbilarium imaginable), I've accomplished exactly zero. The house still looks like a hurricane hit.

I've had ME for long enough to know that it's not a virus or even tiredness (not tiredness as normal people conceive of it), it's just my whole body going into revolt. For no particularly good reason, but I wouldn't be surprised if the shift in the weather has something to do with it. So I get to look forward to several months of struggling to accomplish the bare minimum (i.e. go to work occasionally) and getting nothing constructive done. Which is particularly sucky as there are things I particularly want to do in the near future.
