I'd forgotten that there's a good reason I shouldn't do extra stuff around the house. Besides I don't care, and it wastes valuable time & energy. It also highlights the need for expensive repairs.

I got all excited because Jason finally fixed the washing machine so that we can wash with hot water again (I didn't miss it taking *that* long to put a load through) and took down the net curtains[1] and washed them. Then decided to clean the windows. At which point discovered that bedroom window (single glazed) is due to fall out of the frame any time, and that an enormous amount of condensation has built up between the panes of the double-glazed window in the living room. Oh well, as they're both at the front of the house they really need to be replaced as a pair anyway.

[1]Vile concept, whole other rant, but I don't want to locals able to look right into my front room, thanks.

Purchased Valerian tea on Friday as it's supposed to be good for insomnia. Tried it last night, and it did exactly what everything else that's supposed to make you sleep does - put me nearly, 99% asleep, caused me to be unable to move, but unable to actually sleep. This was not helped by the fact that someone quite near had an extended firework extravaganza just as I was about to drop off. Usually if this happens I just get up and read, but as outlined above, I couldn't move and wasn't actually conscious either. I might give it another try - for all I know I was due for a bad night anyway.

It's a nice start, but I'm still not shopping there:
Gap admits to child labour violations in outsource factories

and

another article that makes it sound like all sick days are fakes, or "taking little Johnny to the dentist". As this notion gets more prevalent (my employers' new sickness policy is based around it), I'm becoming increasingly unemployable.

Believe it or not, I do read news sources other than the Guardian.
