Paris is go! mark 2
Oct. 19th, 2004 09:07 pmGot another email back saying the hotel I booked is full. Fair enough, but they'd transferred my booking to another agency (another hotel from the same site would probably have been fine with me). For twice the price. I've cancelled that, and booked another one that is nearly as expensive but at least I chose it. (And incidentally, for Paris prices, it's still cheap).
It's still out in the boonies between Place de la Republique & Pere Lachaise(1), but very close to the Metro (what isn't - talk about saturation!) & it looks very nice. If this works out I'll be very impressed with the web site I used - some hotels guarantee instant online bookings (I could maybe have done better price-wise if I'd been willing to wait 24-48 hours for confirmation, but I don't really have time to deal with lots of this at the moment), and they handle hotels all over the world, and have a points system so you can save up for free stays! I won't say which site it is just yet, in case it all goes wrong.
So, this trip is going to cost a lot more than I'd hoped, but I can still afford it. However, this does mean that I won't be doing much else in November. Or going to the Cinema Strange gig on Saturday. Bugger. Up till today, I was still hoping to find a way to swing that.
(1) Looks like the boonies on a map of Paris, but I suspect would be less far from the centre than, say, Archway in London.
