Nov. 21st, 2005 08:00 pmSo, most of you (at least those on this side of the Atlantic) will have heard about the Amnesty International study that 1/3 of Britons think that women flirting or being drunk are at least partially to blame if they are raped.
Colour me outraged. Hardly surprising.
Even more outrageous was the Metro's[1] headline: FLIRTING WOMEN 'ASKING FOR IT' in (approx) 72-point font. Erm - WTF? Presumably if you read the tiny print it clarifies that it was a survey.
That despicable even for them. I was going to write them a strongly worded letter, but have decided to bypass that altogether and complain about it to whoever one complains about these things to. Does anybody know how to do this? Is it the Press Complaints Commission? (who we all know are a useless bunch of wankers anyway)
I always run out of energy before I actually accomplish these things, but I'm quite determined this time. There's lots of other things I should do like join a women's group or lobby for improved "no means no" campaigns but that's hard to do when you're in the work/sleep/work holding pattern.
[1] Free newspaper given out on public transport and all over city centres which I generally descirbe as sub-Daily Mail fear- and hate-mongering bollocks.
