Long Weekend
May. 1st, 2006 05:40 pmAltogether it's been a remarkably successful weekend. We succeeded in leaving the house Saturday night for an evening of fine tunes at Dr Fells in Basingstoke. Not sure how I'd survive the trip on a non-long weekend, but we will certainly attempt to go back. We were expecting to know nobody there except for
chimera_s, who was guest DJ, but were pleasantly surprised to run into an unfeasibly chirpy
melston. You're not allowed to be that energetic after moving house all day at our age!
Not surprisingly, I was barely able to move yesterday, so most of my achievements involve watching some of the stack of videos that has built up, and sorting out the rest - everything is cued up and labelled. However, I did also tackle a larger annual job - moving everything out of the conservatory and sweeping away the wood chip, plant debris and dust that accumulates behind and under the rabbit hutch. Florence lives in a hutch on top of what used to be the guinea pig cage but now stores all the pet and some of the garden paraphernalia, and crud inevitably builds up. Because of Jason's allergies, it's a job I'm kind of on my own with, and it's one that even finds me coughing and spluttering by the end. In an effort to make the setup accumulate less crud, I got Jason to remove the wire part leaving just the frame, and put the stuff we don't need to access daily in a plastic tub. As usual, nothing's as clean as I would like it, but it's all a gazillion times better than it was.
Today has also been mostly devoted to watching DVDs, but I started hacking back some bushes in the garden. There's one that just needed to go. I couldn't dig it up, but then I'm pretty useless, so I got Jason to do it. How was I supposed to know it was like an iceberg - 90% of the damn thing was below the soil, and it was an enormous job. I'm in trouble. Garden's a bigger mess than when I started, as I didn't leave enough energy to get rid of all the stuff I cut back, but I can only do so much at one time.
Actually, the fact that I have done anything at all after staying out way too late and bouncing around on Saturday night is a good sign.
