On balance...
Apr. 28th, 2003 03:21 pmI'd only slightly rather be dead than continue to work here. The Incompetent Co-worker is being especially incompetent today (and conning the temp into doing her work for her), and much as I enjoy the boss's absence, I really need some decisions made sharpish, and could have done with knowing last week that he's not here today.
As usual, the only thing keeping me sane is the consultant that I don't work for. This morning we had a long conversation about how Wayne's World is an excellent movie and the usual guitar nerd stuff.
Bristol traffic was such that I was on the bus for an hour this morning (usual journey time - 20 minutes). I got up early just to avoid such an occurrence. It does not help that my current bus reading book (The Princess Bride, for anyone who cares), is less than thrilling. I know where and when it's supposed to be funny, but all the jokes fall flat for me.
My back is much better but my neck has got to the "there are not enough painkillers in the world" stage, and my sinuses are acting up again, bringing on not only the weather-related sinus headache (I used to only get these before thunderstorms, now they happen whenever it rains, which is annoying), but also the added bonus of my ears continually blocking and popping. Not painful, but irritating.
Eventually I managed to barricade myself in the registrars' office and get some work done. I quite enjoy the stuff that really is my job, but it's a rare occurrence that I get left alone for long enough to get on with it. I have probably wasted more time today telling people not to bother me with stuff that is Not My Job than I have actually working.
