[film] Happy Feet, Cinderella Man
Aug. 26th, 2007 10:59 pmToday's DVD selection was Happy Feet and Cinderella Man.
The former wasn't nearly as bad as we'd been led to believe. Principally because we both got a big kick out of the Free Presbyterian penguin leader. Also because we watched it first thing in the morning before brains were engaged - I might have been less tolerant of it later in the day.
The latter wasn't as wonderful as I'd heard, but it was a well crafted story which made boxing actually interesting to me. In that respect it reminds me of Master and Commander, which I thoroughly enjoyed despite normally having zero tolerance for themes nautical that don't involve pirates. I'm of the opinion that the hallmark of good storytelling is if the writer/film maker holds my interest even when the subject is something I'd normally run a mile from.
