Convergence

C14 is going to nearly coincide with my 40th birthday.

So, who's going? Am I going to be there on my own trying to convince random people I really was on a.g. Back In The Day even though I've since completely disappeared from the face of the earth?

The plan (such as it is at this stage) is to fly to either TO or NY and ROAD TRIP. I have yet to do the serious research into what I want to see, but given that most things that I want to see in the US are within striking distance of the eastern seaboard, I'm thinking this can be as long or as short as we like. Top of the list is Washington DC with my glasses this time.

Actual birthday, if funds allow, will be spent driving around Miami in a convertible. I have no shame and no class. And I like the art deco hotels.

If we book and start paying for things soon enough, it shouldn't mess up the finances too badly - car rental's going to be the killer. I can't actually buy laminates until I find out whether my current employment is going permanent, so I might miss out on the money-saving there.

Looks like this year I'll be spared the agonising over whether to spring for the official hotel. That is some deal! Would book now, but somehow can't cope with the idea of actually planning anything that far in the future.

Convergence NEXT YEAR?

You are so not 40. I do not believe you. You're early to mid-30s and that's the end of it.

:D I'd drive around Miami in a convertible too. Some things just have to be done.

Continuing to act like I'm 19 is the secret, though my joints definitely feel the age.

There will also be cocktails with little umbrellas in. And fabulous hats.

We are considering it. Too bad it's when the airfares are so high. It probably will be a lot more expensive to road trip from north to south (and back again?).

Why does it all have to be so expensive?

I'm not flying all that way for four days. If nothing else, I don't think my body clock would ever forgive me. If I start shopping for flight deals early on, we should be able to find something reasonable. Motels are cheap. The east coast road trip is something I've been wanting to do since forever and this sounds like a good excuse. It'll be our major vacation for the year instead of just one festival.

I very badly want to go, and for once, it might not be impossible. I'm crossing all the fingers I've got.

If it means I get to meet up with you In Real Life (TM) I'll sell a kidney...

If you're still in Grand Rapids I'll swing by and kidnap you.

*grin*

But the risk is actually that I'll be in Greece. I'm trying really hard to schedule around it, though.

M and I are giving serious thought to going, and I am racking my brain to come up with non-velvet, leather and PVC goth wear. I'm thinking lace, fishnet and mesh. If you're going to be there AND celebrating your birthday, that's an added incentive.

Already got that covered

Faux-1950s beach wear and sundresses, all in black. I might have to start sewing next month too. I already have the ridiculous floppy sun hats.

My mother has started doing a dressmaking course. She's three weeks in. Once she's done a few more weeks I'm going to start hitting her with patterns and fabrics...

Sundresses. What a great idea. And parasols too.

The Axe & I are planning on being there and on roadtripping down for it. So far we have plans to include [livejournal.com profile] liz_lowlife in our shenanigans.
