Sunday's Bibliogoths selection. Starts out being Raymond Chandler in the future, then gets a whole lot more interesting. I found it flawed in places (psychobabble, mainly, and am still not convinced about the end), but still couldn't put it down. I've already read two of his thrillers so this didn't come as much of a surprise to me.
8. One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night by Christopher Brookmyre
One or two of you really rate Brookmyre, and I found this in a charity shop cheap recently so I decided to give it a try. It's utterly hilarious. It's more than a little reminiscent of Iain Banks at his most inspired, but Brookmyre very much has his own voice. The plot doesn't suck either, but it's the characterisation that keeps things going. And the one-liners.
I was going to nominate this for Bibliogoths, but I thought I'd put it to the Brookmyre fans: Is there a more quintessentially "Brookmyre" book, or a better one, that I should be proposing instead? Because having to read a different one wouldn't exactly be a chore.
