In the news

It occurred to me today that it's been ages since I posted any weird and wonderful (or plain angry-making) "in the news" links. Could that possibly be because I now have a job that involves actual work rather than surfing world news sites all day?

Anyway, about the US election - can somebody wake me when it's over? Seriously, folks, I was bored of it before the primaries. My country is having an election too. It was called on Friday and happens mid-October. I know I'm biased, but it strikes me as a more sane way to run things.

My intake of news about the US election is restricted to The Daily Show. That makes it all so much more bearable, particularly the RNC.

Actually, that's not quite true. My intake of US sources is restricted to The Daily Show, but the election is covered pretty intensively on all of BBC Radio 4's current events shows, two of which start and end my day, so I'm getting some non-Jon Stewart versions.

As a side note, why is it so much more satisfying to watch The Daily Show when one is actually in the US? I also caught The Colbert Report when we were there, and I have to say I don't feel like I'm missing much.
