A very successful weekend. Somewhat more active than I had in mind.

Yesterday I got up early to go to town and finally get myself some high top Reebok classics. My feet hate me less already. I also acquired the new Neal Stephenson, which should keep me off the streets for some time.

Took a shortcut to the bus through the new Cabot Circus shopping centre. We have an Apple store. Otherwise, mostly we have a lot of shops I can't afford to use and wouldn't want to anyway, but anything that stops the city centre being tumbleweed central is a good thing in my book. The only shop I went into was the much-publicised Harvey Nichols. Found a sort of cute t-shirt top that cost £60 and walked right out. The exciting thing for me is we have an Aldo! Virtually every pair of shoes I ever bought when I lived in Canada was from Aldo, and to this day if I buy shoes back home, that's where they come from. Year-round access to (almost) reasonably priced, lovely boots is not what my bank account needs.

Last night I dragged [livejournal.com profile] lastaii and [livejournal.com profile] badnewswade to a tiny pub in Stokes Croft to see My Silent Wake, Imprint and Attrition. All three bands (technically, 2 1/2, as Imprint are a side project of Attrition) were stunning. I know Attrition are about as wilfully obscure as a band can get, but I couldn't believe how few people turned out.

They also had the better part of the back catalogue on sale. Now, I've been aware of Attrition for over a decade, but have never got round to purchasing any of their albums. There was a comedy upending our wallets on the table moment, and Jason and I scraped together enough to acquire two albums. That was supposed to last all week.

Got back far past my bedtime and fully intended to do nothing today. But it was beautiful out there, so I dragged Jason round the house & grounds at Dyrham Park. Half the world had the same idea. I've never been there when the deer have antlers before.

Speaking of my bank account, I have paid off my credit card bill and emptied my current account. I have not quite enough to pay my direct debits with this month. So everything that can goes back on the credit card, and the overdraft charges from my bank will still be considerably less than the interest would have been if I hadn't paid off the card in full. Moral of the story is, I really, really have to stop spending money.
