I am all kinds of excited about the Utah bid for C16 (version with drive-by troll comments included.)

Unfortunately I've just noticed the date - no, I'm not complaining about the price of flights - that's what pre-planning and sticking to a budget are for. It's smack in the middle of UK school holidays, which means co-worker with school-age children will likely be away. Low staffing levels mean that we can never have more than one of us away at a time. So, guess I need to find a new job before then.

Despite the fact that it's in no way sane, I'm trying to work out a way I can go to C15 in Long Beach (July is OK for me as school holidays don't start till August here). It would just be me, and I would be only going for C15 and not making a holiday of it. I know I always say I'm never going that far for 4 days because my body clock will never forgive me, but it's Convergence so I can just never acknowledge the 8-hour time difference at all. Or so I keep telling myself.

I recognise that I'm far more emotionally invested in this than is sane or sensible. And that it would be more feasible if I didn't keep doing things like today's retail therapy expedition. I can't even sell stuff, because I sold everything I own that I can get money for when I was out of work the other year.

So - before I get too involved in finding a way to make it happen, how many of you are going? Anyone willing to share a room? Rides from the airport etc?

I'm sorry. There's never a perfect weekend. Mid August turns out to be the best time for Park City, for various reasons -- July is booked up for Independence Day on one end and Pioneer Day on the other, making the whole month "vacation season" for the state. June is actually a bit cool up there, and skiing still goes on during June. I figured getting people up the the highlands in the middle of the Dog Days would be a positive.

Maybe you can put in for the time off WAY in advance! :)

I do appreciate that there's never a perfect time to do it. On the plus side, it's my birthday that weekend! And July is prime vacation season all over Canada too, so while it makes more sense from a North American perspective to do it in August, it's less good if you live in Europe.

Of course it would be better if I had a job where things were more flexible about taking holiday!

That's what I would be looking at for Long Beach, maybe even flying out on the Monday if I can get a late night flight from LAX.

Although I'd really like to make a big road trip out of C16 and do a feasibility study for my Ghost Towns of the West travel book project, a combination of work commitments and admitting that it might be too hot to do much in the way of exploring mean that might be a quick trip too.

I'm going to Long Beach, everything is sorted out but my flight and possible travel companion.
