Update - the good
Mar. 15th, 2009 03:28 pmThursday night was our trip to Malvern to see Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot. It was every bit as wonderful as you might expect. The set was astounding.
It's lovely round there - we'll be going back when the weather's better to do some walking. Also had a lovely pre-theatre meal in a posh (by my standards) Indian restaurant.
Once again, obscure corners of the BBC make my weekend. Baroque! from St Peter's to St Paul's was predictably pretty and fun. Touring Britain: The Victorian Way and The Classic Motorist's Way, in which architectural historian David Heathcote tours (parts of) Britain using an 1887 Baedecker guide and 1930s Shell Guides was similarly exciting. I now feel the need to get my hands on an early Baedecker - the comprehensiveness is quite staggering, and seeing what once-famous tourist attractions have become (or not changed) would be fascinating.
