[books 2010] The Likeness
Apr. 5th, 2010 07:15 pm22. The Likeness by Tana French
Second novel by the author of In the Woods, which is adored last year and some of you have read.
Detective Cassie Maddox (from the last book) is called to a murder scene where the victim looks exactly like her, and whose ID gives a name that Maddox once used as an undercover agent. With no clues or suspects, the police concoct a story whereby the victim was only wounded and Cassie moves into her life as a postgrad at TCD, living with four very odd other postgrads (really odd. I have sufficient experience in postgrad English departments to know from strange) in an enormous Georgian house just outside Dublin.
I was afraid reading further works by French would be a law of diminishing returns once I knew her angle, but this was leave-me-alone-I'm-reading fantastic. French maintains really high levels of tension throughout.
Highly recommended. I can't wait for her to write another. Edit: Which I see is in July of this year!
