I can has contact lens
May. 22nd, 2010 06:55 pmLens being the operative word.
We tried lenses in both eyes; as expected there was some wicked double vision to contend with every time I moved.
Just having a contact lens in my left (dominant) eye is surprisingly effective. There are limits, though - the closer things are, the more the brain tries to process the information from my right eye, so reading is nearly impossible, and driving would be inadvisable. What little blurriness there is can be cut down by wearing sunglasses (I also have a silly pair of non-prescription sunglasses. Because I can. I think I still have my favourite pair from when I last wore contact lenses around here somewhere).
I was let go from the shop with the sample one still in and did the rest of my errands and went for lunch wearing it. I pick up the pack of disposables next Saturday (not surprisingly they didn't have my prescription in stock).
It works way better than I'd ever dreamed possible, and while the maximum amount of time I can wear it is probably about 4 hours before my brain goes on strike from over-work, I think I'm going to be making use of it more than planned.
I also have new glasses, and prescription sunglasses.
