We have a winner!
Jun. 20th, 2010 09:23 pmThe ongoing saga of trying to find a pub to hold our book club in has come to an end!
The Colston Yard. Opposite the Bristol Royal Infirmary, so DG and I get 10% discounts on production of our NHS employee badges.
This place is entirely made of win.
It is not, however, made of cheap win. The food and drink are so good we kept going back for more & spent a lot longer there than normal. I can't remember the last time I had three drinks in a pub, as that's not really in the budget. However, they have a prodigious collection of rums. The only reason my head didn't implode with indecision is about half of them are too expensive for me to try. The two that I had were very, very good though.

Date: 2010-06-21 04:02 pm (UTC)Which begs the question... why would a book club want to meet in a pub?
Why not, say, a library or bookshop? One of those Waterstones with a cafe out-of-hours, say? Or a school room? Or university classroom?
I can understand a wine tasting club or a real ale club meeting in a pub, but I don't see the connection between availability of alcohol and reading. In fact I can think of lots of disconnects.
Maybe just me.
