So, I went downstairs this afternoon to make a cup of tea, and found that Cassidy had a mouse cornered in the dining room. It seemed to be in shock or something because Jason caught it really easily.

We were about to put it back in the back yard like we do with the frogs she brings in, but Jason thought that wasn't such a good idea and I ended up in the shed fishing out one of the extra small animal cages. To be honest, I didn't think it was going to survive till I got it all set up.

We know the mouse was brought in from outside because is was soaking when we found it.

I figured the mouse must have been pretty sick or hurt to begin with, because an impressive hunter Cassidy is not. However, after hiding under the wheel in the cage for a few minutes, she (we think) very rapidly found the food and water. From the amount of time she's spent eating, we wonder whether she was just weak from hunger.

And then she figured out how to use the wheel. We've had pet mice that have never mastered that.

I still fully expect she'll be dead in the morning, but if she's still OK in a day or two, we're going to release her in the park. We thought about keeping her, but she is way too fast (she doesn't run, she teleports), way too smart and way too intent on escape. It would be a disaster.

But she's so cute. Pictures? We can't get close enough now she's perked up a bit.
