10. The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

This is the fourth of Morton's books - I've read them all - the first two were in charity shops *everywhere* at the time, which can be a dubious recommendation, but I picked them up from the library and absolutely loved them. The third was less wonderful.

This one is a bit different - while it is still a multi-generational pseudo-Gothic mystery, it is not based around a big country house. Instead, it's the story of a successful actress (in 2011) whose very elderly mother is dying, who is reminded of a long-repressed memory (from 1961) of a violent incident from an otherwise bucolic childhood, and she's determined to find the answer before her mother dies. The secrets all trace back to her mother's life in London during the Blitz.

I greatly enjoyed this, even though I figured out the twist at the end about halfway through - finding out how it came about was still a fun ride.
