Sep. 6th, 2002 03:21 pmThings are going pretty well at work at the moment. I've been honing those two Essential NHS Survival Skills, namely, Acquiring Things and Scoring Free Food. I now have a lovely cabinet in which to store a bunch of stuff that was piled on the floor. The posh restaurant across the road is going to have a seat with my name on it pretty soon if I keep eating there at this rate.
I suddenly find myself going to lots of meetings. The monthly management meeting is bearable (namely because someone usually brings breakfast - see above) despite the fact that it is in fact an opportunity for the lot of them to argue in circles for an hour, but yesterday they collectively decided I need to go to the weekly patient-related session as well, which as far as I can tell entails more of the same. On the plus side, it's another hour that I don't have to actually do any work and coffee is usually supplied. At the last minute the boss decided to invite me to the big finance meeting this afternoon. I managed to wriggle out of that one - I need to know the outcome of the meeting, but I don't think my sitting through it will do anyone any good. Besides, Friday is sacred leaving early and shopping afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Whitby Accommodation Saga has started. The short version is we'll be lucky to be staying anywhere closer to Whitby than Robin Hood's Bay at this rate. I'm just mighty glad we've decided to give the Spa a miss, because if I had to go through this to get tickets too, I suspect it would be more bother than I could - well - bother with.
