On Saturday evening after a 4-day illness, my guinea pig Pip died. We buried him on Sunday.

He was only 2, which is quite young for guinea pigs. He's the one I "inherited" from a co-worker when she couldn't look after him any more. He came from Petsmart originally and was very small and scrawny, and we always knew he would never make it to a ripe old age like Gordon did. I was still hoping for a bit more than 2 though.

The problem now is the remaining guinea pig. Sneezey is 3 and has never been on his own, and is definitely moping. I'm hoping not to get another guinea pig because, believe it or not, I'm trying to stick to a strict non-replacement policy. Anyway, I'm going to try him with the small rabbit tonight and see how they get on. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to hope the shelter still has one of the guinea pigs that were in last week (rescue guinea pigs are difficult to come across, and I will want an older adult to put in with Sneezey).
