Another question for the Canadians

How bad is it if you lose your Social Insurance Number card?

I was all set to use it as my "document to support identity" and it's vanished off the face of the earth.

I found the ancient out of date Ontario Health card I always kept it with. I have a horrible feeling it got accidentally thrown in out a clean at some point.

More disturbingly, it means I have to send them my driving licence now.

This is precisely the sort of being useless that I hate which I referred to yesterday.

Edit: Found it! Phew. Breathing again.

Well, I've never had one, so in itself it's not too bad.

Yeah, but I'm looking for a job in Canada :-)

Right. You're saying that you're being useless for losing something that you've had no need of for decades. Um, I dread to think what that makes me.

The problem being, I haven't needed it for decades, but I need it now for my passport application.

Plus in Canada you need it when applying for jobs, which I intend to be doing soon.

I understand the problem - and I'm glad that you found it - I just don't think that you should be beating yourself up about having mislaid it! Anyway, you've found it now.

Is it really soon that you're going to be applying for jobs? It'll sound odd my saying that I'll be sad to see you go, as after all it's rare these days that I get to see you, but it's true nevertheless. Still, I'm happy for you. =:-)

Just because I'm applying for jobs, doesn't mean I'll get one.

None of this is happening soon, I'm just attempting to get my shit together so it can happen some time.

And I need to get my act together and get transport so that I can visit the Bristol Zoo you before you go. Does Jason need to get a job straight away too, or could you manage with just one of you working to begin with? And what on earth will happen to all the animals?

[identity profile] inulro.livejournal.com 2004-03-23 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really know the answer to any of that yet - once I get through passport hell I'll work myself up to talking to Immigration. As to the animals, we'll have to see how many are left when we finally go.

Hi Jodi-

It's nice to see you about and well and all. Hope life's staying fluffy for you.

It's going marvellous. I'm living in Brum again, after spells in Chester and Liverpool. May be moving to Portsmouth soon though. Spent too long in a pointless relationship before ending it. Working in IT implementation. I think that's about it!

It's now a moot point but for most purposes the card is not that important, as long as you remember the number. Even then you should not need to give it until you are filling out the tax forms after you have the job. Unlike the US where you nearly have to give your SSN in order to use the toilet. I think I still have my SIN card but I once got my SSN card replaced and it was surprisingly painless.
