inulroWent to Virgin to buy the new Bowie album today. It was out of stock, but they did have the Christiane F soundtrack on CD (it wasn't reissued until last year). Yay! I can now retire my Christiane F. tape, which has suffered years of overuse.
The more sensible amongst you may wonder why I'm so excited about an album that doesn't feature any material not on other Bowie albums.
Several reasons, the first and foremost being that Christiane F features the English/German version of Heroes (Heroes/Helden) with the first half in English and the second half in German. This for me is the definitive version of probably my favourite Bowie song.[1]
Interestingly, the liner notes say that there is also a French version of Heroes. I can't believe I didn't know that! I suspect parting with Stupid Money (TM) may ensue, if I can ever track a copy down (CD reissue unlikely).
The live version of Station to Station is a bonus, as it's a fine track, but Stage (the live album it's taken from) is not that exciting and I don't actually own it. Yet.
Boys Keep Swinging without having to listen to the rest of Lodger. Lodger is a fine album, but Boys Keep Swinging is far too upbeat to go with the rest of the songs on it.
It's a really good selection of Bowie songs from his Berlin period, and it was the soundtrack to an important period in my life. So there.
Speaking of Silly Money, the amount Virgin want for the new Stones greatest hits compilation is indeed silly. I will be purchasing it from Amazon after Whitby, as even with postage it'll cost less. (This may be the point where my goth card is revoked). I suspect Jason will be buying me a new set of headphones. Or evicting me.
All I need now is to find a book shop and pick up the new Donna Tartt novel on the way to Whitby (Must. Wait. Until. I'm. Paid.), and I'm set.
