[Film review] - Dark Water
Oct. 22nd, 2004 08:24 pmBriefly:
Ring, (or sequel/prequel) it's not. It's not a bad film, it's just a bit predictable and has at least one major physical improbability that I couldn't get past (which I can't go into here as it's a spoiler). The main character is an annoying victim who keeps doing stupid "horror movie" things - like continuously using the elevator that is obviously unsafe, to go up one floor, etc.
On the horror front, it did get me, but probably for an unintended reason: the ghost manifests itself by making water drip into the apartment below. Given my past experiences with such plumbing situations, I may be having nightmares about the house springing a leak for weeks.
The DVD was damaged but we managed to watch all of it except for about 5 minutes (it hung up twice). I reported it to the rental company - they have a special "report damaged DVDs" email address - and put it in the post this morning with a note saying "damaged DVD". Got home tonight to find an email saying that they are moving my next payment date back two days for the inconvenience, and put it back on my rental list. I've since deleted it because we did manage to watch it, but I was impressed with the quality of the service.
