Aah. The latest on Mormon fundamentalists:

The lost boys, thrown out of US sect so that older men can marry more wives

It's been a while since I reminded y'all to go out and read Under the Banner of Heaven, all about these wing-nuts. Do so. Be reminded that my problem has less to do with polygamy than with their idea of "consent". Maybe I spent too much time working in medicine & obsess about informed consent, but I think it's important.

Oddly enough I've nearly finished Under the Banner of Heaven.

I think US Christian fundamentalists worry me as much as the Mormon ones - possibly more so as they have more political influence.

It is worrying that young girls all around the world have so little say in who they marry.

Ah, my goddaughter's family are having their own personal religious wars. One uncle and his wife are Southern Baptists, and an aunt and her husband are Catholic (the aunt's a new convert). Luckily my friend, my goddaughter's mum, was raised British anglican and is therefore as close to atheism as makes no difference.

Some gamesradar users had a look at that site. Apparently feminism's aim is to turn women into lesbians. Given what a tiny percentage of the population are lesbian, you have to conclude that feminism failed and the fundies are getting their knickers in a twist over nothing...

The scary thing about the Mormon fundies (as opposed to regular Mormons, who are scary enough) is that they set up in really remote areas so that they become The Law.

Our local regualr mormons are really lovely people - I used their genealogical resources for some of my family tree research. Admittedly, they're unnervingly cheerful for people allowed neither caffeine nor alcohol, but they are very sweet.

The local kids come in and trash their church, which is really not on.
