From today's Guardian (I don't look very hard for this stuff):

Hellfire and sexual coercion: the dark side of American polygamist sects

There's also a book on the subject (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] miss_soap for mentioning it):

God's Brothel: The Extortion of Sex for Salvation in Contemporary Mormon and Christian Fundamentalist Polygamy and the Stories of 18 Women who Escaped

I will not be purchasing it in the near future, however, as my bank balance is none too healthy.

On a similar note, thank you for recommending Under the Banner of Heaven; I'm reading it now.

You don't have to own everything you read. They have these things you can go to to get books that you can just take for a while and read, then bring back.."Libraries" I think they're called. ;)

I didn't say I wouldn't be reading it...

I use the library extensively - that's the main reason it takes me a year to get around to reading books I've bought as I always have something I need to read *now* to go back. Our local library's selection of North American-related weirdness is a bit poor though, so I'll have to resort to inter-library loan, which can be very slow.
