In the process of trying to stay awake long enough to phone in sick this morning, I was subjected to the Today programme giving air time to a spokesdrone for Intelligent Design. Thankfully, Sir David Attenborough talked circles round him, but they've still had the oxygen of publicity.

I'd love to think the British public would never fall for that, but the level of scientific literacy in this country (and probably everywhere else) is so low that I do worry. Added to that is the counter-Enlightenment zeitgeist that has Tony Blair himself saying that teaching creationism in state schools is OK.

Much more of this and I'll have to move to France, where their national natural history museum has the word "Evolution" in the title.

They did get rather an easy ride from the interviewer, didn't they. And far too much unchallenged airtime.

Attenborough talked circles round them, but if you understood what he was saying, chances are you already knew what ropey old rubbish ID is to begin with.

At least we still have Darwin on our 10 pound notes.

I'd like to think that must really bug Creationists when they come over here :)

I don't think Creationists come over here much.

Good thing too.

(this is probably because they think the EU is the Beast of the Apocalypse...)

Who or what are Intelligent Design? They sound like an ad agency!

It's not Creationism, honest! It masquerades as science but is just creationism with big pseudo-scientific babble. Big in the states, unsurprisingly.

The Fundies in the states REALLY scare me. Religious nutters are one thing, religious nutters with influence over the government of one of the world's biggest military powers is another.
