Slightly Disturbing - They're here
Aug. 1st, 2005 07:52 pmIn the process of trying to stay awake long enough to phone in sick this morning, I was subjected to the Today programme giving air time to a spokesdrone for Intelligent Design. Thankfully, Sir David Attenborough talked circles round him, but they've still had the oxygen of publicity.
I'd love to think the British public would never fall for that, but the level of scientific literacy in this country (and probably everywhere else) is so low that I do worry. Added to that is the counter-Enlightenment zeitgeist that has Tony Blair himself saying that teaching creationism in state schools is OK.
Much more of this and I'll have to move to France, where their national natural history museum has the word "Evolution" in the title.
