I've had some sleep, though not as much as I'd like. It's remarkably quiet today - the downpour must have something to do with that. Some fireworks did go off about half an hour ago, right across the street judging from the volume.

We both felt like poo today, so did an internet grocery shop. Because I don't use it often, Tesco's user interface has changed every time I use it. I have to admit the new one is an improvement, except that it's too difficult to get to the "groceries" section - I don't want home appliances, insurance or rental DVDs! And it only works in IE, about which I might even complain.

Moved some more stuff around the living room as part of my ongoing effort to make this place look a bit less like a dump, and have been successful again. It's psychologically somewhat easier now - I was so fed up with it to begin with I couldn't see a way out, but as soon as we did a little bit of rearranging it made enough of an improvement that there did seem to be at least some point to the process. As long as we have Too Many Animals it will be a bit cluttered in here, but I can live with that.

Realized while we were in Canada that I have to get the new sofa from Ikea. Not dealing with Proper Sofa Compaies and free credit and 36-month payment plans (allegedly, going in and giving them large sums of money and saying "I want that one delivered next week" doesn't work) aside, there's the fact that the turning ratio from our front hallway into the living/dining room is TINY, as indeed is our hallway, and thus flatpack is the only way to go. Current sofa only got in the house because the arms come off.

Which leads to the realization that before I buy the new one, I need to make disposal plans for the old one. The last time I had to get the council to take away a defunct piece of furniture there was a six week wait (but it was free, so I didn't complain). So I should call up tomorrow and see how long it is now.

Before anyone mentions Freecycle, you haven't seen our sofa! It really is past use.

Speaking of Freecycle, I never get round to posting stuff there because I hate Yahoo groups so much. If I don't get around to it soon, I'm going to have to throw it all away. (Everything which can go to a charity shop already has; it's the superfluous electrical items that I was planning to Freecycle).

I should go fall over now, though I suspect the fireworks are about to start up again any minute.

There's no way of getting a sofa in through a window?

Only if I can arrange sofa delivery the day I get my new front window.

Coincidentally we're getting new windows in the new year, but the logistics are still against us. Temporary removal of current windows would likely lead to permanent removal - we desperately needed new windows 5 years ago when we moved in.

When I say this place is a hovel, I mean it!

I don't have/use IE...I use Mozilla, and the Tesco site works just fine on it. I've never had a problem with it.

It wasn't adding anything to my basket so we fired up IE and it worked just fine.
