Happy New Year!
Jan. 1st, 2006 07:35 pmSomewhat belatedly - I've had an interesting few days. To start with, "work" between Christmas and New Year turned into the busiest three days I've had in a long time. In one way it made going in worthwhile and the days go faster, but disrupted my plans to catch up on my reading.
I got my Hepatitis A vaccination on Friday after work. About an hour later all my joints and muscles got very stiff indeed, which wasn't one of the advertised side effects, but because everything goes into my joints these days I decided it was just my body putting on an appropriate immune response and went to bed. Woke up in the middle of the night with a fever, which was one of the advertised side effects. Didn't really get back to sleep and when the alarm went off on Saturday I stayed up long enough to call in sick at the shelter and went back to bed, but failed again to sleep.
Drove to London for NYE festivities. Wouldn't have made it if I'd had to take public transport, as my body still hated me and I was moving extremely slowly. I'm used to being a bit stiff and slow, but not to swimming through treacle. By then I was decidedly less amused with the whole vaccination side effects lark. Spent the evening in the company of people I just don't see often enough. It was remarkably pleasant, and despite the fact that I was not drinking much, the hours between midnight at 3:30 flew by too quickly.
Once again I failed to sleep, but thankfully when we got up on Sunday I only felt as lousy as I normally do after too many days of not sleeping, and the phantom stiffness had gone away. Eventually we headed home, with a quick visit to more people I don't see often enough.
Didn't really sleep again last night so today has been mostly spent curled up reading a trashy thriller. It was a really good trashy thriller (Want to Play? by PJ Tracy) so there are worse ways to waste a day. Today has also been one of those unfortunate days where all the animals needed cleaning out at once, which took what little energy I had, quashing all delusions of doing anything more constructive. I had hopes of staying up to watch the new Rebus mystery on ITV but it looks like I'm going to have to tape it after all.
