Jan. 6th, 2006 08:18 pmDeparture in 13 days! Yikes! I'm reasonably well prepared, with the exception of Spanish proficiency. I'm stuck in a work/sleep holding pattern again and haven't been able to face working on it all week.
The only thing I have been able to concentrate on is Clive Barker's Everville, which I am enjoying immensely. Long ramble about my relationship with Clive Barker coming soon.
My goal for tonight is to stay awake long enough to watch The Daily Show and The West Wing while they're actually on. It would be the first Friday in a while I've stayed awake until 10 pm.
I've had a slow couple of days at work and thus found some nifty things on the internet. I'm inordinately excited by this:
Archeologists uncover earliest known Mayan writing
which in turn led me to Mesoweb:, a very nifty resource for mesoamerican archaeology.
Excitement levels may vary. Bear in mind the most exciting thing I saw in the travel bookstore this week is the new Rough Guide to the Maya World
So yeah, I am going to the one part of South America that doesn't have pyramids & stuff. Sometimes that bugs me, but I'm thinking of it as a test case. If I survive I'll get more adventurous and either do a Maya or a Inca trip next time.
If I'm honest, what really bugs me is not having had the nerve to quit my job and wander around South America for three to six months. It seems like such a waste to go for such a short time, and things are particularly exciting in Bolivia at the moment.
