More baby gerbil action
Aug. 20th, 2006 08:55 pmWe have another temporary visitor. The mum of the two baby gerbils we had the other month had another litter, and there's a runt in this lot as well. One out of seven is better than two out of five, but this one is much smaller even than the others were, and is a bit bald and exactly half the size he (I think it's a he, but I can't tell, which is another sign there's something wrong) should be. Except for his back feet, which are absolutely huge.
He hasn't got the memo that he's Not Right, and runs around like a monkey on crack as a normal baby gerbil. On the one hand he's so small and obviously Not Right that you feel sorry for him, but on the other hand everything he does is utterly hilarious. He gnaws furiously at his toilet roll tubes, and makes a terrific racket, but does very little damage. His digging skills are similar.
The last lot turned out to have nothing wrong with them except that the others hadn't let them feed and ate more than our 4 adult gerbils put together in the week we had them; they'll always be small but are basically OK. I hope that's the case with this one, but we'll see.
Jason has a picture of him here.
