I'm back

I know, most of you didn't know I was gone.

I've been in Dorset for five days. It was lovely. For once I got excellent weather on holiday. I felt less horrible than I have for a couple months, except Tuesday, which was a bit of a non day. Saw lots of archaeological stuff and walked more than I thought I could. Maiden Castle on a windy day was still a bad idea. No, I'm not going to tell you about my holiday in any more detail. It wasn't that exciting. Unless you count having to deal with terrestrial TV reception again in a building with dozens of seagulls sitting on the roof.

I did purchase more books. Only one was a proper book, the other ones were small publications about Dorset. I need more book shelves. The sensible thing would be to build a unit into the alcove in my computer room, but the room needs to be painted first (file under, like that's ever going to happen). So I suspect I'll be going to Ikea to purchase Billy or one of his friends.

All the zoo are fine, though I got a panicked call from the shelter on Tuesday because I'd forgotten to put on the label that our degus are all decrepit in varying ways, and the staff thought the sniffly one had just come down with a rotten chest infection. We took the rat family back with the rest of the zoo. Most of the females have been rehomed already.

I have to go to work tomorrow to finish the project that gets us our funding for next year. I'd resent it less if it had more to do with patient care, but it doesn't.

Oh, and just before we went away, I got an email from a friend in Manchester. She and her long time partner are getting married. Next weekend. In Manchester. So I won't be able to see Emoshun play live in Bristol, because I won't be here. Sorry Jim! It could be worse - it could be this weekend (Exile!!!!) and I'd have a terrible decision to make.

I grew up in Dorset & still think of it as my home...

I reckon it's one of the most beautiful & interesting places in the UK. Did you visit Corfe, Lyme Regis, Dorchester, Lulworth Cove & Badbury Rings too?

I was blown away - will definitely be back. We missed Corfe (were staying in Bridport so were at the other end of Dorset, though did make it to Wareham for lunch).

Badbury rings were excellent, Maiden Castle nearly killed me, Lyme Regis was disappointing (but I was feeling ill that day), missed Lulworth Cove due to me being too knackered to walk past the car park. Knowlton Henge was cool - it's the one where there's a ruined church in the middle of the henge.
