Interesting new books on the market
Mar. 5th, 2007 09:34 amThere's a new translation of The Mabinogion in the shops. This is something I've been meaning to re-read since I had to charge through most of it in a week for a course as an undergraduate. The Penguin translation wasn't particularly reader-friendly (thus my desire to re-read it from the beginning), so I might well pick this up and see if it's any better.
From some programme on Radio 4 (can't remember which one, probably Start the Week or Midweek):
Portrait of a Priestess: Women and Ritual in Ancient Greece by Joan Breton Connelly. Obviously I can't afford to buy it now, and don't have time to read it anyway, but it's something I want to chase up at some point.
