[Film] The Messengers

Not the best ghost story movie (for that is still The Changeling), and a bit predictable (you know when the "make you jump" moments are coming, but they're pretty effective nonetheless), but not bad either. There are worse ways to waste an hour and a half.

Set in North Dakota (which as far as I'm concerned is a horror story in itself), it turns out it was filmed in Saskatchewan. Studio work was done in The Place We Don't Talk About, and location work was in the town of Indian Head, where I've also spent some time. Didn't recognise it though - all small towns in that part of the world look the same.

Thanks. I've figured out that there's a bunch of interesting stuff in the northern end of all the western provinces but going there & seeing them would take way longer than we have, while the main point of this trip is to drive across the country on the Transcanada, seeing cool shit that is along the way.

We're planning on going to Dinosaur Provincial Park in AB, which is right off the highway, and I think our next stop there is the Rockies.

My boss is from Edmonton & when I talked to him about the trip he was entirely dismissive of SK & MB (suggested that once we leave Winnipeg we should floor the car & not slow down until we get to AB).

That's the way I feel about the country between Winnipeg and Sudbury. Canadian Shield is all well and good, but after the first few hours it all starts to look the same and there's another day and a half to go.

The only difference between Edmonton and Regina is that four times the population means four times as many rednecks.

Flooring one's car on the Canadian Sheild runs the risk of moose.

At least on the praries you can see a gopher coming for a good 2-mile distance.
