Can anyone enlighten me as to how long it takes to drive from Kendal to Glasgow, and then from Glasgow to Aberdeen? On a Sunday.

The plan was to visit Glasgow Necropolis and then Rosslyn Chapel and then go on to Aberdeen, but Rosslyn closes at 4:45 on a Sunday, so unless we get going seriously early in the morning that probably won't happen (unless there's a direct road from Glasgow to Roslin that Google Maps isn't telling me about).

Bloody ages I would think. Kendal to Aberdeen sound easily enough driving for a decent day, let along chocking diversions in. Though if you're going to do it, I'd go through the Borders and go to Roslin first, then go to Glasgow.

Well it's at least an hour from central Glasgow to Roslin and it's about 3 hours drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh to Aberdeen (if you know the road, it could take 4). Plus you'll need around an hour at Rosslyn. It's worth a look though. Have a wander round Roslin Glen if you have time, it's beautiful.

Are you going to be in Glasgow anyway? The necropolis is nice, but it's not worth visiting Glasgow specially.

We're not otherwise going to Glasgow, but it's something I've been meaning to do for years and as we're heading up the M6 it seemed to be a matter of driving straight on and eventually you hit Glasgow.

From city to city (Glasgow - Aberdeen) it takes just over 2 1/2 hours. Edinburgh to Aberdeen takes just over 2 hours. From the south of Aberdeen city through to here, it takes about another 40 minutes (20 minutes of that just getting around the city).

If you are travelling from Rossyln - I don't know if the Forth Road Bridge is still being worked on at the weekends. I think that has been causing some delay, but not sure how much.

Roslin's only a couple of miles outside the Edinburgh bypass, so it's the M8 all the way through from Glasgow - an hour or so - then afterwards back onto the bypass and up to the Forth road bridge.
