Just got back from seeing Tindersticks.
Not surprisingly (I've seen them before, must be at least 8 years ago now), they were excellent. It was at a venue that's usually used for classical music so the acoustics & sound were outstanding. It was all seated (a godsend for me) so it meant I got to sit down (second row!!!) and actually be able to see the band.
I wasn't terribly familiar with a lot of the material, as I've not listened to the later albums that much. The first album is one of my favourites ever, and because I never got the feeling of having played it to death (it must have spent 2 or 3 years being the CD most resident in my CD player), I've just never listened to the other albums much. Not being familair with all the songs wasn't a problem in any way, as it's always a joy to watch six people on stage who really know how to play their real instruments.
Most of them have ditched the Nice Suits they hade made with the proceeds of the first album, and indeed Stuart was wearing the most atrocious ill-fitting denim outfit. He also has bad facial hair. Fortunately this hasn't affected his voice or performance.
It was weird to see them in a non-smoking venue, as last time I saw them the entire band was smoking all the way through the performance. It was nice being in a non-smoking venue, because much as smoke doesn't usually bother me, practically every single member of the audience was smoking while we were waiting outside. (It's a thing about the last few non-goth gigs I've been to - way more smokers than at goth gigs)
Hmm. It's past my bedtime.
