As many of you will know, one of the things that really gets me down about where we live is that up till now there haven't been any nice cafes to hang out in within walking distance of my house. Last year a tiny coffee house/used book shop opened in Redfield, but there's not much space. And it's too tempting to buy more books.

I needed to get some exercise today so we decided to walk down there, as I couldn't think of anywhere else to go[1]. And discovered that the site of what has always been a truly naff cards and trinkets shop has morphed into a proper cafe with comfy places to hang out AND good food. Plus baked goods that look incredibly yummy (I was in actual need of a meal so had a sandwich). This is more exciting to me than I can describe. It's the sort of place we can take our weekend newspaper and just sit. (To quote [livejournal.com profile] badnewswade, "don't think of it as expensive coffee, think of it as cheap office space". Jason just got a little bit more serious about being able to work from home more often.

It's still a fairly long walk from our place, but I do really need the exercise.

In other news, it's been a really hard week. I'm pretty exhausted, and there is zero serotonin left in my system and I'm feeling really down. On those rare occasions when I get a bit depressed (and we're talking days rather than weeks) I can actually feel the absence of whatever neurotransmitter that's missing, so I know that it's not real and it's not me. I just hate being so incredibly un-productive.

I did still have a whale of a time at Henry Rollins last Sunday. This time I didn't pull all the muscles in my side from laughing too hard, but I did still laugh non-stop for 3 hours. I love Henry. I find him really inspirational and life-affirming. So I get inspired by weird things. I also wish I had 1/10th his energy.

[1] While my health is much better than it was, if I'm going to walk for any distance I still need a sit-down before I head home.

Will the lengthening days help at all? I hope things improve soon.

We always walk to the butcher's on a Saturday and usually have a coffee at one of Trowbridge's many cafes. (For such a chavvy place, it's surprising how many cafes with outdoor seating it has, and in the morning the town is really pleasant.) It's fun just to chat and watch the world go by.

I'm hoping the extra daylight effects kick in soon. In theory it makes me cheerful that I'm travelling to and from work in the (mostly) light now, but it hasn't translated into feeling much better yet.

Until recently, we had a lot of truly repulsive greasy spoons around here, but nowhere I might actually want to eat and/or hang out.

Coffee joints, huh?

Oooh - my ears are burning!

I popped into that wassname, that cheap-office-space-place in Clifton people keep talking about, (Coffee Planet? Land Of Coffee? damn my rebellious brain!) and it was very nice and, compared to Neros, the coffee is actually absurdly cheap.

Only slight problem is, the internets don't work on my pocket computer, but otherwise, I waz very impressed. Nice one!
