[Toronto] Suspect Video fire
Feb. 21st, 2008 09:16 pmJust heard about this (and all over TO news sites). One of the last un-Gap-ified parts of Queen West too.
Yeah, I'm suspicious - get heritage status, go up in smoke. Camden anyone?
When I first heard "Suspect Video burnt down" I thought it was the one in Mirvish Village, and that would have been more personally upsetting to me. I mis-spent a good deal of my youth (and the better part of my pay cheques) in Suspect and its sister business The Beguiling (my favourite comic shop ever).
Losing a major undeveloped chunk of Queen West is a bigger tragedy for everyone who would like to see the city look less like a carbon copy of any big US city with the chain stores etc. Not to mention the people who lived above those shops - though thankfully nobody was seriously injured or killed.

Date: 2008-02-21 09:31 pm (UTC)Duke Cycle is determined to rebuild and reopen. No idea what Suspect plans to do. I do know that I'm stopping by the Markham street store tomorrow after work to spend some money. They need all the help they can get right now. I will *not* go into The Beguiling. I won't. Not even a little bit.
