A little light
Jun. 23rd, 2008 09:10 pmFor the most part, I'm Not Coping - not sleeping, in pain, and have developed a collection of new symptoms that would be worrying if I took the time to think about them.
I still have no travel insurance, which I must sort out because I might be brewing a nasty sinus infection.
One little thing has really brightened my day. One of the many things I have been putting off for months for absolutely no good reason is booking a hotel room for our first night in Florida. It's something that had to be done as our flight gets into Miami in the evening after far too many hours in transit. Too many sites, too many hotels. Anyway, today something came up that really caught my eye: The Miami Downtown Hilton for US$ 77/night!!! Granted, parking is expensive on top of that, but the total is still very small for what it is.
In England I couldn't get a comparable hotel for that many UK pounds, or even a crappy B&B for the pair of us for an equivalent amount of money.
The plan is to head down to the Keys the following day, and I booked a reasonably priced motel. One that's recommended in the Rough Guide. I have never been able to get into any accommodation mentioned in a popular guidebook before - they're always fully booked (especially this close to the trip date). Proof that the US economy is in the toilet, perhaps?
