Dressmaking etc
Jul. 20th, 2008 09:56 pmI've spent the bulk of the weekend sewing and it looks like I'll have this dress ready in time for Convergence (in black cotton with little red skull & crossbones motif).
I had to measure myself before cutting out the pattern and I was utterly horrified. Then it was all too big and I had to take it in. Then I attached the top to the skirt and it looked as if I'd taken it in too far, but on having added the straps and the zip, it fits perfectly, so I don't have to noodle around for hours letting out the waist after all.
The straps had to be sewn on by hand, so I threw in the DVD of Atonement which has been sitting around here for a while.
I'm glad I was sewing, otherwise I'd want my two hours back. I didn't see the appeal at all. Which I half expected - I read an Ian MacEwan book once and completely Didn't Get It.
On the one hand, it's disappointing that there's no longer a space shuttle launched for the day before Convergence. On the other hand, it means I can have an extra day in South Carolina. We were going to pop up to Charleston only because it's relatively close to Savannah, but having looked online and in the Charleston and Savannah guide book, it turns out there's tons of fascinating things to do in the Charleston area and I can't wait to go!
Edit: I also watched the pilot episode of Weeds this evening and laughed my ass off all the way through.
