Heat & bad hair days
Aug. 4th, 2003 07:52 pmYup, it's hot again.
So far I'm feeling fine, though I'm a bit tired because my sleep patterns have been a bit skewed. I'm slightly worried because it's going to get even hotter this time than last, and I really don't recall working at all well at 33 degrees, even when I had an air conditioned office. Then again, I don't recall working at all well at the temperatures we've already experienced this summer in the past.
If work was air conditioned, I wouldn't be worried in the least. But it's not. At least I can get away with wearing very small skirts and generally looking like a slob. If I had to look presentable I'd just curl up and die.
Speaking of looking presentable, I'm in for about 6 months worth of bad hair days. My hair is short enough that it needs washing every day, but long enough that drying takes hours, even with the blow dryer (something I try to avoid, especially with the severe amount of bleaching that I've subjected it to) and even in this heat. Last night I thought it was dry before I went to bed, but the funny angles it was at this morning would indicate otherwise. It looks like crap anyway and is going to until that last layer grows out. I had vaguely planned on getting through this phase by getting lots of fake hair but a) I can't afford it and b) I'm not even contemplating it in this heat.
So far all the animals are OK. All but the Denzil rat live downstairs, where it stays nice & cool. I've put Denzil on the floor beside my desk so he's out of the direct sunlight at least (he got really miserable when it got hot before). He did drink the better part of a week's worth of water today. I do worry a bit, because Snuffles got heat stroke once many years ago, so I know bunnies are susceptible.
Snuffles has developed a cataract in one eye. She is unchanged otherwise (she is, after all, very, very old) and definitely not blind - she ran around the living room last night, and I think I bumped into more things than she did.

I'm not minding the heat at the moment as it's not 'close' as it was before. There's not a great deal of movement of air in this house though, so it's going to become more stifling I think.
Nermal & Solo are spending much more time flaked out, and are seeking the shade, so it must be hot.
