Happy Birthday To Me
Aug. 14th, 2003 09:09 pmYup, it's that time of year again.
I'd asked Jason to get me a half decent atlas. I read a lot of books set in places where my geography is wobbly, and we had no suitable reference guide to look them up (the Penguin Atlas of World History, Vol 1, is useless both as an Atlas and as a history guide).
So, I came home to find a Waterstones bag containing The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World. Oh. My. God. Comprehensive is the word. It's bigger than me. The map of the prairie provinces has all the one-horse towns my parents used to live in. It's so cool. I'll be wasting hours looking at it now.
In less happy news, the rest of my birthday celebrations have been put on hold. I'm completely exhausted. The heat finally got to me towards the end of last week and I didn't sleep Saturday, Sunday, or Monday night, which of course is just catching up with me now.
Added to that we had to make vet runs after work Monday and Tuesday. The original (and very old) degu developed a terrible abscess and she had to have an op to have it lanced and drained. She wasn't expected to live through it, but we have a live degu and a big vet bill (we were very much expecting a dead degu and a big vet bill). We also get to give her both oral and topical antibiotics. Which she is very good about, actually.
I'm sure I had more interesting thoughts to share, but my brain is as usual empty as soon as I get near the keyboard. Not being able to access LJ during the day doesn't help. I'm going to go curl up and continue to read The Quincunx and no doubt stay up way too late again.
